Shakespeare s Differing Opinions Of Preservation
Sonnet 17 and Sonnet 55: Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Differing Opinion of Preservation Two constant themes throughout this collection of sonnets is death and preservation. Shakespeare battles with the idea of how to preserve not only the beauty of his subject, but also his work without losing value and merit. Sonnet 17 and Sonnet 55 share the common idea that preservation is necessary and important, but each take different approaches to this preservation. From Sonnet 17 to Sonnet 55, Shakespeare grows confident in his craft and begins to develop a different ideology when it comes to preservation. In this paper, I will compare and contrast Sonnet 17 and Sonnet 55 and thoroughly examine Shakespeareââ¬â¢s changing preservation ideology. Sonnet 17 focusesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The speaker in Sonnet 17 doesnââ¬â¢t only focus on the importance of the child for the subject, but also the stake they hold in the child. As stated the poet is fearful. He is worried about preserving his craft and his personal legacy. At this moment he doesnââ¬â¢t understand his true worth as a writer and the power his words hold. He doesnââ¬â¢t understand that they legacy of his subject can live in his words. But he learns in Sonnet 55. In Sonnet 55, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s confidence as a writer begins to blossom. This is proven in the first two lines of the poem where he says, ââ¬Å"Not marble nor the gilded monuments/Of princes shall outlive this powerful rhymeâ⬠. One canââ¬â¢t get more cocky than that. Shakespeare sets the tone. He lets his confidence shine through and makes sure that nothing is hidden when it comes to his ability and the power his words hold. He begins to understand that the legacy of the subject can be preserved in a poem, if captured correctly. He goes on to iterate that his words can stand the test of time because words canââ¬â¢t be destroyed saying, ââ¬Å"than unswept stone besmeared with sluttish time/When waste war shall statues overturnâ⬠(line 4,5). The speaker is saying that the the tangible things can be destroyed and in some ways the subject should feel flattered that he [Shakespeare] decided to preserve his legacy in such an indestructible way. He has an understand that nothing lasts forever, even humans.Show MoreRelated Diversity in Colleges Essay2682 Words à |à 11 Pagesare entitled: 10 Reasons Why Reparations For Blacks Are A Bad Idea For Blacks And Racist, Too. Statement of Purpose to MSc Marketing Management at...
After 11-months of work experience as an account executive at Grey Worldwide in Thailand, a leading advertising agency from New York, I desire to return to academic study and proceed to graduate study in MSc Marketing Management at University of Southampton, one of the most well-known universities in the United Kingdom. I graduated from Thammasat University in Journalism and Mass Communication (International Program), and I know that it would be a good opportunity to experience working life before continuing in Masterââ¬â¢s Degree. At undergraduate level, I studied two marketing subjects and as expected I got high scores in both subjects. Thus, I decided to work in advertising agency where specializes in advertising and marketing. As an account executive, I have learned the two main objectives are firstly to service client in order to ensure the satisfaction and maintain a good relationship between advertising agency and client, secondly to acquire more clients into agency with the purpose of increase the revenue. My routine task focuses on more pragmatic jobs, beginning with receiving brief from client, allocating the cost and proposing quotation, briefing with creative team, and preparing the presentation. To achieve the best outcome, I need to understand the target audience and the markets. A good understanding of market can construct a strong strategy that possibly leads and overcome the consumerââ¬â¢s mind. Most of my accounts are international brands from local clients. Bacteria Classification By Gram Staining Essay Example For Students
Bacteria Classification By Gram Staining Essay Bacteria Classification By Gram Staining/titlepreBacteria Classification By Gram StainingTHE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENTSCIENCE 453 : BIOLOGY FOR ENGINEERS REPORT No.1Presented By : Karim A. Zaklama 92-1509 Sci. 453-0124/2/96Objective:To test a sample of laboratory prepared bacteria and categorise itaccording to Christians gram positive and gram negative classes and also byviewing it under a high powered microscope and oil immersions; classify itsshape and note any special characteristics. Introduction:Bacteria was categorised into two groups in 1884 by the DanishBacteriologist Christian, gram positive and gram negative by a stainingtechnique where the ability to avoid de-coloration of Crystal Violet solutionby alcohol would render the category of gram positive, and gram negative if thebacteria is de-coloured. This could be noted by the final colour of thebacteria: a violet colour where Gram positive and a pink colour of the Safraninadded pending the de-colouring process. Materials:1. Bacteria Sample 2. Microscope Slide 3. Gram Staining Kit and Wash Bottlesa. Crystal Violet Solution b. Iodine Solution c. 95% Ethyl Alcohol d. Safranin e. Distilled Water 4. Bibulous Blotting Paper 5. Microscope 6. OilProcedure:A. Preparation :1. Bacteria is cultivated on agar jelly in an incubator at 25C for 24 hours. 2. Obtain a microscope slide and with a toothpick, smear a thin coat of thebacteria sample onto the slide 3. Cover the smear with a drop Crystal Violetand leave standing for 20 seconds 4. Wash off the stain with distilled water;drain and blot off the excess with bibulous paper. 5. Apply Grams Iodine onthe smear and leave to stand for 1 minute. 6. Drain the excess iodine and apply95% Ethyl alcohol for 20 second duration or till the alcohol runs clearly fromthe slide. 7. The smear should rinsed for a few seconds with distilled water tostop the action of the alcohol. 8. Drain and blot off the excess with bibulous9. Introduce Safranin to the smear and leave standing for 20 seconds. 10. Washoff the stain with distilled water; drain and blot off the excess with bibulouspaper. 11. Leave the slide to air dry. B. Examination:1. Place the slide under microscope on low powered lens. 2. Move the slideusing the apparatus until the sample can be seen as a blur under the microscope. 3. Focus the lens to ensure that there is a sample directly under the lens. 4. Move to higher powered lens, repeat step 3. 5. Move to higher powered lens, repeat step 3 6. Move microscope aside and add Oil immersion, leave for a fewseconds and re-examine the slide. Note Shape and colour and any other observations. Results and Observations:It was evident by visual examination that the alcohol was de-colouring or aleast partially de-colouring the bacteria. The sample appeared a dark pink or close to violet by the naked eye; amicroscope was needed to ensure results. Under the low powered microscope shades of pink were noted. Under the medium power, the shades were more clear but no shape could be madeout. Under the high powered microscope clumps of pink rod (bacilli) shaped bacteriacells could be observed. Under Oil Immersion and high powered lens the cells could seen more spaced outand thus a clearer indication of the pink colour, bacilli shape and spores couldbe made out in the individual cells. Conclusion:The Shape was noted as Bacilli (Rod-like) shaped cells; a gram variableshape, distinct in either Gram Negative or Gram positive bacteria. The final colour of the cells were stained pink by the Safranin showingthe de-coloration of the crystal violet proving the bacteria is of the gramnegative class. .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .postImageUrl , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:hover , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:visited , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:active { border:0!important; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:active , .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u043b75bdfd6008fcf9e57ec6ade2068e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Great Gatsby Analysis EssayUnder oil immersion the cells became more sparse and under the highpowered lens of the microscope spores could be seen, as little bubbles, in thecells. This tells us that the bacteria was in its terminal state. The presence of spores in the bacteria at its terminal state tells usthat the bacteria could be an old culture. Old bacteria cultures which are grampositive tend to de-colour, yet more slowly than gram negative bacteria. Thespeed of de-coloration was not inspected very clearly thus no further conclusioncould be reached, yet it is possible that this an old culture of Bacilli shapedGram Positive bacteria. Recommendation:It is recommended that the same sample be tested again for de-coloration; focusing on de-coloration speed. If the de-coloration is fast thenthe sample is definitely gram negative, slow de-coloration would tell us it isgram positive. For future samples it would be recommended to keep the bacteriasample for this specific test for only 16 hours as recommended to avoid thepresence of old cultures which are anomalous to this test.

Reaction Paper on Divided City
This reaction paper talks the social codes that guide how women and men interact in exercise and cyber clubs. The author discusses the detachment between Fassi women in Fes. Some Fassi women identify more with conservative practices while others identify more with liberal ideals. The concept of public separation between different genders is practiced differently in exercise clubs and cyber cafà ©s in Fes.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Reaction Paper on Divided City specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Conflict on Modes of Interaction Some women seek more privacy and as such, the club has partitioned their exercising space with heavy drapes. The liberal female clients find this to be suffocating because they are not able to get fresh air when the weather becomes too hot. There is divided opinion between female clients regarding if the separation of the space is necessary or not. This creates conflicts between wom en that seek comfort and those that want the space to be hidden from menââ¬â¢s prying eyes (Newcomb 2006). Fassi conservative female clients cherish their religious practices and do not seem to be aware that they infringe on the right of other women that visit the club to exercise. The owners of the club do not know how to satisfy both sets of clients. Another breed of younger women who have grown up in Fes find fault with the deep religious and cultural conservatism. They differ strongly with older women who still hold on to the conservative cultural norms and values. These young women do not want to be associated with conservative Fassi social norms and want fewer restrictions in public places. The exercise club cannot be distinguished as a public or a private space. It is difficult for all its members to comply with the principle of separation of the two genders in public places as stipulated by Islam. Newcomb (2006) observes that the club represents foreign values that are b eneficial to the society yet; the Fassi society is yet to embrace these ideals. Changes in Culture Cyber cafes have brought about a change in the way women and men interact. Majority of clients in these cyber cafà ©s are under 30 some of whom are single and still in school. Many female internet users interact through the web with men from other parts of Morocco. Some of these relationships lead to marriage and as such, the strict social codes do not restrict men and women in Fes from dating. The mixed gender interaction is made possible because there are fewer restrictions on the internet (Newcomb 2006). This shows a shift to foreign attitudes and values in the city and the country at large. Young people conduct their online interactions in French yet Arabic is the most spoken language in the country.Advertising Looking for report on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! They have been able to find an effective medium through which they can share their experiences with people of the opposite sex. Newcomb (2006) shows us that Fassi women interact with men without worrying about what the society will think of them. Cyber cafà ©s have made it possible for young people in Fes to communicate with their peers with fewer restrictions. There is a difference between how young people understand culture and how old members of the Fassi society understand it. References Newcomb R. 2006. Bikram Yoga Essays
Bikram Yoga Essays Bikram Yoga Paper Bikram Yoga Paper Essay Topic: The Namesake The philosophy and practice of Yoga date back to ancient times, originating perhaps as early as 5,000 to 8,000 years ago. It has been argued that the rules or percepts set down in the first systematic work on Yoga, Patanjalis Yoga Sutras, do not set forth a philosophy, but are practical instructions for attaining certain psychological states. Over many millennia, different yogic meditative techniques had been developed and used to restore and maintain health, and ultimately to attain states of enlightenment. Yogic meditative techniques have been transmitted through Kundalini yoga, Sahaja yoga, Hatha yoga and the other yogic lineages. Though there are numerous styles of yoga; the styles vary according to the emphasis and combination of four primary components: asanas, pranayamas, mantras, and the various meditation techniques. In Kundalini yoga, there are thousands of different postures, some dynamic and some static, and also thousands of different mediation techniques, many of which are disorder specific. Kundalini yoga meditation techniques are usually practiced while maintaining a straight spine, and employ a large number of specific, and highly structured breathing patterns, various eye and hand postures, and a wide variety of mantras. All of these techniques supposedly have different effects and benefits in their respective combinations. 38 History of Bikram Yoga Bikram Choudhury founded the Yoga College of India in Beverly Hills, California, in 1974. Bikram combined ancient yoga doctrines with scientific input from doctors at the Tokyo University Hospital to put together a modernized and standardized workout. Bikram yoga is an intelligently designed series of twenty-six postures that works the body from the inside out. Each posture strengthens and stretches the muscles for the next posture. Breathing is coordinated with the postures, and there are also separate breathing exercises. Bikram yoga also trains the mind through meditation to improve self-control, determination, concentration, and patience. (Simpkins, Annellen 36) This is one of the most often prescribed yoga styles. Bikram Choudhury was himself a multi-sport athlete. He was a marathon runner and a world record holder in Olympic weightlifting. Once known mainly as the yoga of the stars, this style of hatha spread the United States via Beverly Hills. Bikram yoga is better known today as Hot Yoga because it is taught in a room kept at approximately 90 degrees Celsius. What many people do not know is that although this style is purported to have originated with its namesake Bikram Choudhury, it actually can be traced back to Bishnu Gosh, the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda who founded the Self-Realization Fellowship in 1925. 26 Asanas of Bikram Yoga The important pranayama and asanas for correcting abdominal disorders are: Pranayama with Rechala and Puraka, Uttanapada asana, Pawana Mukta asana, Bhujanga asana, Shalabha asana, Pashchimottan asanas, and pranayama are described and illustrated: PRANAYAMA (with Rechaka and Puraka) Pranayana is a special kind of breathing exercise. There are various forms of pranayama; though each is done differently, most have these three steps in common: Rechaka (Exhalation) Puraka (Inhalation) Kumbhaka (Retention) In this particular pranayama, there are only rechaka and puraka but no kumbhaka (retention of the breath). One significant aspect of this pranayama is that it is a diaphragmatic breathing. In this exercise, the stomach is rhythmically pulled in and out. It is very important to remember that the stomach is not pushed upward and downward. Benefits: This asana activates the kidneys, liver, pancreas, and the whole abdominal area. Because of this internal activation, it removes constipation, wind troubles, indigestion, dysentery, diarrhea, acidity, and gastrointestinal disorders. This asanas also brings flexibility to the spine and invigorates the eyes, face, lungs, chest, neck, shoulders, and the whole upper area of the body. Since it is a harmless asana, it is recommended for every practitioner. (Sinha 34) PASHCHIMOTTAN ASANA (Posterior stretch pose) Sit on the floor and stretch both legs in front. Keep the heels and toes together. Be seated firmly, with the spine, neck, and head straight. At this stage, the hands should be on the floor on both sides of the legs. DHANUR ASANA (Bow Pose) Lie on your stomach. Keep your arms stretched on both sides. Rest your head on either cheek on the floor. Bring the legs and heels together. Breathe normally. Bend both legs at the knees and bring the heels close to your hips. Then grasp the right ankle with the right hand and the left ankle with the left hand. If you find it difficult to reach the ankles, your may hold the toes. Now, holding either the ankles or the toes firmly, bring the knees and the ankles close together. Keep the cheek on the floor. Benefits: Dhanur asana activates all the glands of the endocrinal system. The pancreas becomes fully energized because of the internal as well as external impact of this asana on it. Thus, there is an all-round conditioning of the pancreas. As a result, its normal health is restored and it begins to release insulin properly. The asana has a good effect on the adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, and sex glands. Because the cells of all these glands are activated, the secretion of their respective hormones becomes normal. This asana corrects disorders of the joints, spinal cords, lungs, chest, and abdomen. It removes various types of stomach troubles, develops digestive power, and eliminates extra weight and fat. The asana has some specific benefits for women: it corrects menstrual disorders and order troubles related to the reproductive organs. (Sinha 63,64, 44, 45) UJJAYEE PRANAYAMA (In Lying Position) Pranayama is mainly a kriya (exercise) with air. It contains life force (Prana Shakti). It also has an absorbing, activating, and massaging capacity. Because of these qualities, air is regarded as a great purifier as well as a giver of life to the inner organs of the body. The body makes full use of these qualities during pranayama. Ujjayee Pranayama can be practiced in two positions: standing and lying. There is full impact of it in the first position and a little less in the second. But the first is a strenuous and the secondis easier. Therefore, practitioners are advised to practice Ujjayee lying down for one month and then may switch to the standing position. Benefits: The most remarkable benefits of Ujjayee are that it does the internal purification, activation, and energizing, together with external control and conditioning, all at the same time. For asthmatics, Ujjayee is most effective for correcting and strengthening the lungs and the bronchiole linings. (Sinha 70, 73) TARA ASANA (Palm Tree Pose): Stand up and make a forty-five degree angle with the feet. Let the hands hang loosely at the sides. Keep the body straight and look ahead at eye level. Breathe normally. This is the position of readiness. Benefits: Tara asana strengthens the lungs and chest. Though the outward activation in this kriya is of the hands, it internally activates the lungs, muscles of the chest, and the respiratory system. For asthamatics, therefore, it provides a corrective as well as a strengthening effect to their bronchioles and lungs. For general practitioners, Tara asana has several benefits. It enhances the measurement of the chest. Those whose chests are not properly developed can find this asana more beneficial by making the chest proportionate. It builds up the chest muscles in an all-round way and has a curative effect for any disorder of this area. To add a few inches to their height might also find it very rewarding. People suffering from pain in their shoulder joints can correct their disorders through Tara asana. (Sinha 76, 79) YOGA MUDRA (Yoga Symbol): The perfect way of practicing the Yoga Mudra is to be in the Lotus Pose first. But it is not easy for everyone to sit in the Lotus Pose. Hence, those who cannot do it should sit on the floor with folded legs. Bring both hands behind the back. Grab the wrist of one hand with the other hand. Make a fist with the hand which is being held. At this stage, keep the hands loose and let them rest on the back. Straighten the spine. Look in front while keeping the neck and head erect. This is the position of readiness. SIMHA ASANA (Lion Pose) Put a blanket or a towel on the floor. Bend both legs at the knees and sit on the curve of soles and toes, keeping the heels apart and turned upwards under the hips. Since it might be difficult for some persons to make this curve with the toes, soles, and heels, they are advised to sit on their bent legs in any position they can possibly manage to make. After being seated either on the curve of the heels or in any position, do the following: straighten the body. Keep the head, neck, and spine in one line. Look in front. Put the palms of the hands on their respective knees. Breathe normally. Benefits: Simha asan is very famous for its various remarkable benefits. It has medicinal value for curing throat trouble, voice deficiency, and tonsillitis. It also has a good effect on the respiratory system. It activates the larynx, trachea, and all the bronchioles. It invigorates the thyroid cartilages. Because of this internal activation and invigoration, health is restored to the whole respiratory system and its disorders are removed. This is an easy asana which can be done by anyone. (Sinha 83, 84) SARVANGA ASANA (Whole Body Pose) Lie down on your back on the floor. Place the palms down next to the body. Bring the heels and toes together and keep them loose. Straighten the whole body and look towards the ceiling. Breathe normally. Benefits: Sarvanga asana is one of the most valued asanas of the Hatha Yoga system. As its name indicates, it is indeed an asana of the whole body. There is hardly any area of the body which is not energized, activated, and exercised during this asana. Because of its wholeness in effect, it is regarded next only to the king of all asanas- Shirsha asana (Head Stand Pose). The asana has countless benefits. Therefore it is a very desirable asana for general practitioners. It corrects any disorder of the circulatory system; supplies blood to the facial tissues; removes constipation, gastric disorders, and abdominal troubles; strengthens the digestive system; and energizes all the sex glands. (Sinha 85, 86) MATSYA ASANA (Fish Pose) After practicing Sarvanga asana, it is necessary to do Matsya asana. There are several good reasons for this. Certain asanas activate certain parts of the body more than others. To reverse this difference of impact, such asanas are followed by particular asanas to create a balance. For example, during Sarvanga asanas the head, neck, and shoulders are passive and the lower areas of the body are active. To create a balance, Sarvanga is followed by the Matsya asana so that the head, neck, and shoulders become active and the lower areas of the body remain passive. Thus, by doing the Matsya asana after the Sarvanga asana, the whole body is activated properly and in a balanced way. There are two ways of doing the Matsya asana: 1) With the Lotus Pose, and 2) Without being in the Lotus Pose. The first form is regarded as superior to the second, but both are equally beneficial. SANTULAN ASANA (Balancing Pose): Place a carpet on the floor and stand on it. Make the body straight and firm. Look straight ahead. Let the hands hang at the sides. This is the position of readiness. Benefits: Santulan asana is mainly a kriya of the major joints of the body. It removes their rigidity and makes them flexible. It also normalizes the blood circulation in the affected areas and tones up the muscles. As a result of enhanced blood circulation and muscle conditioning, pain in the joints is corrected. This asana has a curative effect on the knees, ankles, shoulder joints, wrists, palms, and fingers. SETUBANDHA ASANA (Bridge Pose): Lie down with your back on the floor. Bend the legs at the knees and bring the heels close to the hips. Keep the heels about two or three inches apart. Let the knees also be about three inches apart. Bring your hands close to the body on both sides. Put the palms on the floor. Look straight up and breathe normally. This is the position of readiness. Benefits: The main impact of Setubandha asana is on the spine and the hip joints. Those who have pain either in any part of the spine or in the hip joints strongly advised to practice this asana. SIDDHA ASANA (Auspicious Pose): Persons with moderate joint pain of any type can be completely cured if they practice the asanas of this series. Chronic cases, however, might take a little longer time than up to this point to become fully cured. Therefore, patients with chronic arthritis are advised to practice all the asanas regularly. Sit on a carpeted floor and stretch out both legs in front. Keep your spine straight and firm. Look in front. Keep the hands on the floor. Breathe normally. This is the position of readiness. (Sinha 87, 93, 95, 106, 107, 108) It must be emphasized that one must eat a proper diet along with the regular practice of yoga to get satisfactory results. Effects of the Civil War essays
Effects of the Civil War essays The Civil War left many Southern towns in ruins. War had devoured farms, farmland, factories, and many roads. These damages ruled out two-thirds of southern shipping. Not only was land destroyed, generations of young healthy men-fathers, brothers, and husbands had perished. Most survivors were left permanently scared in mind or body. Black southerners had received food and shelter as slaves before the Civil War, but after slavery was abolished, some four million freed people were left home less, job less, and hungry. Most Southerners accepted the wars outcome and focused on rebuilding their lives. However, Washington was reluctant to move on so easily. There was serious reconstruction to be done or, as historians would call it, an extension of the Civil War. Basic issues concerning the nations political system were at steak. Yet no one was sure which branch of government had the power to make such decisions. The constitution was silent on the matter of these issues. The farmers made no provisions for solving the problems raised by the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln had created a Reconstruction plan to settle these problems. However, congress saw it as a threat to congressional authority and dismissed it as too lenient. In July 1864 Congress passed its own, stricter Reconstruction plan, the Wade Davis Act. This act required ex-Confederate men to take an oath of past and future loyalty and to swear that they had never willingly borne arms against the United States. Around 14 million people immigrated to the United States between 1860 and 1900. Most came with hopes of finding work in Americas booming industrial centers. With work being scarce During the Civil War, the government encouraged immigration by allowing employers to sign contracts with immigrants. Employers would pay their cost of passage, and in return, immigrants would work ...

Management Accounting Master - Assignment Example The attached report is a proposal to introduce innovations in our management accounting techniques specifically with regard to Activity Based Budgeting related to Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT). The present techniques in place do not seem to be reflecting the changed industry dynamics and priorities. (Lucey, 1993) As discussed at the recent conference we are expecting to develop new products in the engineering cranes and automated fork lift equipment in the 'Premium' segment. These products are expected to be very popular with the automobile industries because of their versatility. Strong business contacts with both the above segment and a referral network are expected to help gain a rapid entry into the market. ABC plans to offer the automobile industries high quality engineering equipment at prices which are competitive relative to other premium quality suppliers in the market. The management of the company believes that the inclusion of precision controls within our products will better serve the needs of the automobile industry. (Garrison, 2003) Conventionally management accountants used forms of variance analysis in arriving at costs. Variance analysis compares the budgeted versus the actual costs of raw material during a manufacturing cycle. Variance can be calculated for both costs and revenue. When costs are allotted to material or labor a standard rate is the benchmark used to compare variances. The standard rate of material versus the actual material cost in the market determines the efficiency of a purchase or labor mechanism. The accepted product costing used volume based measures such as labor hours or labor dollar to allocate indirect costs. Traditional roles allocated to management accountants typically include:- Facilitating the preparation of financial reports Being a part of the strategy forming team Planning optimal resource use Planning and controlling business activity The management accountant is viewed as someone who oversees cost control through a strict regulation of unit prices and labor. (Hansen, 1997) In this context it should be stated that Cash is regarded as an asset that has the ability to generate opportunity cost.
